One Battle After Another is set to be one of the most talked about action thrillers of the year. Written, produced, and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood), the film brings together an extraordinary cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and newcomer Chase Infiniti. Warner Bros. Pictures will release the film in Australian cinemas on September 25th 2025.
The story follows a group of former revolutionaries who are forced back into action when a long thought defeated enemy resurfaces after 16 years. Their mission becomes personal when they must rescue the daughter of one of their own.
Production began in California in early 2024 under the working title BC Project. Filming took place across Humboldt County, Sacramento, the Anza Borrego Desert, Borrego Springs, and El Paso, Texas. Cinematographer Michael Bauman captured the sweeping action on 35mm VistaVision cameras, marking his second exciting collaboration with Anderson following Licorice Pizza (2021).
Backed by a major studio budget and a formidable international distribution plan, the film’s ambitions and grand scale match Anderson’s vision. With DiCaprio’s incredible box office track record only adding to the excitement, the film has already attracted major attention and speculation. Its rumoured inspiration from Thomas Pynchon’s novel Vineland, whom Anderson had previously adapted with Inherent Vice in 2014.
Audiences are keenly set to consume Anderson’s latest masterpiece, which debuted its first trailer over the summer to rave reviews and a Golden Trailer Award win. With momentum growing and an extraordinary cast delivering powerhouse performances, all signs point to this being the cinematic event of the year. The big screen spectacle can be experienced with Leonardo DiCaprio leading the charge when it arrives in Australian cinemas on September 25.
