movieland australia
was a franchise video store business founded by Tony Romano with Paul Spano in 1982 with 135 stores based all around Australia. Movieland was closed in 2002, operating for 20 years – the first store was opened in Bay St, Brighton in Victoria, with the last store located in a Bayside suburb of Sandringham before being converted to Video Ezy and in some locations Blockbuster. In 2021, Video Ezy became defunct and liquidated along with all of their assets.
In 2023, Movieland was rebooted and registered as a media press and retail company by Adam Heron with Shawn Montague based in Adelaide, South Australia. While video stores have become redundant for most, our objective was to bring Movieland back to life to accomplish what the company did best: promote movies and provide family entertainment under the banner of an Australian company we all loved.
Movieland is now a website with:
- Webstore: Selling Movieland apparel such as: T-Shirts, Beanies, Flags, Posters and more.
- Magazine: Providing a one-stop shop for information on New Releases at the cinema, Blu-Ray, digital rentals and all streaming services combined. Interviews with actors and directors, Spotlights on iconic films from the past and more.
- Podcast: Featuring everything above rolled into a neat little package, our interviews are also recorded either via video/audio which will also be available on our platform.Â
