The Travellers – Oct 9

Bruce Beresford’s The Travellers invites us into a moving Australian family drama full of heart, humor and hidden wounds.

Stephen Seary, a successful stage designer, returns home to say goodbye to his dying mother. What he thinks will be a short visit soon spirals out of control. He must handle tensions with his estranged father, navigate old romances, catch up with friends, and wrestle with guilt about leaving, all while trying to get back to Europe for a major opera contract.

The cast brings together some of Australia’s most recognisable screen talents. Luke Bracey, known for his roles in Hacksaw Ridge, Point Break and the hit Netflix romance Holidate. Screen veteran Bryan Brown, beloved for classics like Cocktail, Two Hands, The Light Between Oceans and his long list of Australian and international work. Susie Porter, acclaimed for Ladies in Black, Little Fish and the television series Wentworth.

Director Bruce Beresford has built a career that spans both Australian and international cinema. He first made waves with the Oscar-nominated Breaker Morant, followed by Tender Mercies, which won two Academy Awards including Best Actor for Robert Duvall. His body of work also includes the hugely successful Driving Miss Daisy, which won Best Picture and Best Actress for Jessica Tandy, along with memorable projects like Mister Johnson, Double Jeopardy and Paradise Road. In Australia, his films such as The Fringe Dwellers and Ladies in Black have cemented his reputation for tackling themes of identity, family and cultural change.

The Travellers will be in cinemas from October 9.
