Ten years after The Wailing, acclaimed South Korean filmmaker Na Hong-jin returns with his most ambitious production yet, Hope, an epic science-fiction action thriller.
The story follows a village police chief and his rookie deputy as they attempt to protect their isolated community from a mysterious creature. With devastating wildfires cutting off communications, a hunting party ventures deep into the surrounding mountains, only to discover that they have become the hunted.
Na has assembled an impressive international cast including Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Squid Game star Hoyeon, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender. The film also reunites real-life couple Vikander and Fassbender on screen for the first time since 2016’s The Light Between Oceans.
Filmed across South Korea and Romania, Hope reportedly carries the largest budget ever mounted for a Korean film. The film made its world premiere in competition at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the prestigious Palme d’Or and received praise for Na’s ambitious direction and spectacular action sequences.
