Lee Cronin’s The Mummy – April 16

LEE CRONIN’S THE MUMMY – An unhinged, visceral, bone-chilling reawakening that is relentless, savage, and explosive.”

The director of Evil Dead Rise returns to the horror spotlight with a bold new vision in Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, a chilling reimagining that strips the iconic monster tale back to something far more intimate, unsettling and within modern times.

The film follows a journalist whose young daughter vanishes without a trace in the desert, leaving a fractured family struggling to cope with the loss. Eight years later, the girl suddenly returns. But something is not right. What begins as a miraculous reunion quickly spirals into a haunting nightmare, as it becomes clear that whatever came back is not entirely human.

Starring Jack Reynor (Midsommar), Laia Costa (Un amor), May Calamawy (Moon Knight), and Verónica Falcón (Imaginary), Cronin’s approach promises a slower burn that builds dread through atmosphere, tension and psychological unease rather than relying solely on spectacle.

Behind the scenes, horror heavyweights James Wan and Jason Blum unite their powerhouse production companies, Atomic Monster and Blumhouse Productions, bringing together two of the genre’s most successful creative forces.

Set for release on April 16, 2026, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is shaping up to be a terrifying reinvention that honours the legacy while carving out a darker, more disturbing path for a new generation of audiences.

Don’t sleep, because Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is about to wake up and take over Australian cinemas.
