To celebrate the launch of HBO’s chilling new series IT: Welcome to Derry, HBO Max is inviting audiences to step inside Stephen King’s terrifying world with a one-night-only event that redefines how we experience fear. On Monday 27 October, Sydney’s Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace will be transformed into the Derry Theatre for an exclusive Split Scream experience. This immersive, choose-your-own-adventure screening of episode one allows guests to select their fear level — either Scream Mode for full-throttle horror or Safe Mode for a softer, more soothing experience.
The Split Scream concept reflects Australia’s fascinating relationship with horror. Recent research shows that while half of Aussies prefer cosy horror with the lights on, the other half crave heart-pounding jump scares that make them sleep with one eye open. Clowns remain among the top screen frights for millions, while psychological horror ranks highest in inducing chills.
IT: Welcome to Derry is an eight-episode HBO Original series from Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, expanding the IT universe with Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as Pennywise. Starring Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso, the series premieres Monday 27 October on HBO Max. Complimentary tickets to the Split Scream experience are available from 11 AM on Saturday 11 October, first come, first served. This is more than a screening. it is a story you step into, a town you cannot escape, and a fear you will never forget.
