Big snake. Big screen. Pure chaos. Prepare for laughs and colossal snakes as Anaconda slithers back onto the big screen this Boxing Day.
The outrageous American comedy adventure, directed and co produced by Tom Gormican with a script by Kevin Etten and Gormican, reinvents the 1997 cult classic with a clever meta spin that celebrates the original while diving into completely unhinged territory.
Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd) have been best friends since childhood and have always dreamed of remaking their all time favourite movie, the cinematic classic Anaconda. When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they head deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things get real when an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic movie set into a deadly situation. The movie they are dying to make might just get them killed.
From the very first production moments, the chemistry between the leads is electric. Jack Black jokes, “Quiet on the set. Jack is acting.” He follows with why he wanted to join the cast of Anaconda
“Paul Rudd was already attached and I was like, I want to party with that dude.”
Rudd echoes the sentiment, adding, “I love Jack. We have had the benefit of being friends.”
The supporting cast adds even more personality, featuring Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, Daniela Melchior and Selton Mello. Together they help turn this jungle nightmare into a comedic sprint where every mistake is bigger than the last.
Fast paced, absurd and packed with killer energy, Anaconda promises a huge cinema experience. As Rudd sums it up simply, “It is a thrill ride.” Jack Black seals it with, “Big screen. For life.”
