I love Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure — it’s a classic that kicked off an epic journey. But honestly, Bogus Journey hits me harder and gets way more plays from me. For a lot of sequels, it’s easy to fall into the trap of just rehashing the original with a new setting or problem, but these two films are almost completely different beasts. The only real constants are the time-traveling phone booth and, of course, Bill and Ted themselves. That was the genius of it — instead of just doing more of the same, Bogus Journey took a darker, more intense turn. It’s exciting, unpredictable, and yes, its soundtrack is a fully full-on evil robot assault compared to the first film’s 80s rock and mainstream positive spin.
Speaking of which, huge shoutout to the legendary Wyld Stallyns — the greatest band in the Bill & Ted universe. They totally embody the “Be excellent to each other” mantra, but while the first film’s soundtrack was full of that bright, classic 80s rock feel, Bogus Journey was originally titled Go to Hell. Yup, you feel the vibe change. Megadeth headline the soundtrack, which perfectly fits the darker tone of the movie — and yes, they literally go to hell. The name was changed for mainstream appeal, but Bogus Journey still works perfectly.
Now for the standouts — Faith No More and Primus bring such unique, wild energy that fits the film’s chaotic tone perfectly. Then you have KISS — classic rock legends who deliver the first “polished and finished” Wyld Stallyns anthem, God Gave Rock and Roll to You from the future. Most Triumphant.
But the real icing on the cake? The credits roll with Steve Vai and his unmistakable Bill & Ted guitar magic. His soaring riffs and signature sound wrap up the soundtrack on an epic high, perfectly paired with iconic quotes from the film. It’s a pure rock and roll moment as unforgettable as Bill and Ted themselves.
At the end of the day, this soundtrack isn’t just music… it’s history.
Dust. Wind. Dude.
It’s excellent — or bogus to some.
