The Five Star Weekend arrives on Binge July 9

THE FIVE STAR WEEKEND is centred on Hollis Shaw, a famed cook and bestselling author known for her delicious recipes, impeccable taste and warm demeanour, who suffers a devastating loss. Unable to move forward, the tragedy begins to expose the cracks in Hollis’s picture perfect life, including her strained marriage, her complicated relationship with her daughter and her growing pursuit of validation from her fans.

In an effort to overcome her grief and find herself again, Hollis decides to host a weekend away at her home on Nantucket with friends from different stages of her life. She invites one from her childhood, one from her twenties, one from her thirties and one surprise “fifth star.” Set against a luxurious coastal backdrop, the group discovers that old friendships can reveal new truths as boundaries are tested and long buried secrets come to light.

The series is adapted from the 2023 novel by Elin Hilderbrand, with Bekah Brunstetter serving as developer, writer and executive producer. Beth Schacter also joins as an executive producer and writer, while Sue Naegle and Ali Krug executive produce through Dinner Party Productions, alongside Hilderbrand.

The Five Star Weekend really won us over because it is so easy to settle into while still offering plenty beneath the surface. It is the kind of drama that keeps you watching, not because it relies on shocking twists, but because the characters feel authentic, flawed and relatable. The beautiful Nantucket setting never feels like a postcard. Instead, it provides a warm and inviting backdrop that perfectly complements the emotional story.

Jennifer Garner is a major reason the series works so well. She brings both vulnerability and strength to Hollis, making her feel deeply wounded yet instantly likeable. There is a genuine sadness in her performance, balanced with a quiet warmth that keeps you emotionally invested from beginning to end.

The Five Star Weekend leaves a genuine, long lasting impression and is a series we highly recommend. Join Hollis and her unforgettable group of friends when it premieres on Binge on 9 July.
