Red Carpet Wonders: Project Hail Mary Lights Up Adelaide

Adelaide cinema lovers were treated to a stellar night at Event Cinemas Marion for the premiere of Project Hail Mary, thanks to the incredible hosts of Sony Pictures Australia.

The venue rolled out the red carpet treatment with the polished professionalism that Event Cinemas has become known for. Adding to the excitement were the movie themed gifts handed out to attendees, including collector pins and fun “lava ball” squishies that instantly became conversation starters among the crowd. It was the kind of thoughtful touch that elevates a premiere from a screening into a full cinematic celebration and a collectors item that I will cherish forever.

But of course, the real star of the night was the film itself.

Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Project Hail Mary brings Andy Weir’s beloved novel to the big screen with scale, heart, and humour. The story follows Ryland Grace, played by Ryan Gosling, a middle school science teacher who awakens aboard a spacecraft with no memory of how he got there. As his memories slowly return, Grace realises he may be humanity’s last hope to stop a mysterious cosmic threat that is slowly killing the sun and endangering life on Earth.

What unfolds is a gripping, emotional, and surprisingly hilarious journey across space.

Gosling is absolute gold in this role, delivering a magnetic performance that effortlessly balances panic, wit, vulnerability, and comedy. Much of the film rests on his shoulders, and he carries it brilliantly.

But the biggest surprise of the film is the unexpected friendship that forms between Grace and an alien lifeform he encounters during the mission “Rocky”. Without spoiling anything, this character quickly becomes the heart of the story.

In fact, by the end of the film the audience around me felt the same way:

Move over ET. This guy is my new pet alien.

The chemistry between Gosling and his unlikely extraterrestrial companion is genuinely moving, funny, and unforgettable. Visually, the film is breathtaking. Space has rarely looked this stunning on the big screen. Vast star fields, glowing nebulae, and intricate spacecraft design make Project Hail Mary a true cinematic spectacle.

Space has never looked so beautiful on the big screen.

By the time the credits rolled, it was clear the Adelaide crowd had witnessed something special.

Project Hail Mary is a five star winner and an absolute gem.

Huge thanks again to Sony Pictures Australia and Event Cinemas Marion for hosting such a fantastic premiere night. Adelaide film fans were lucky to experience this one first.

Trust us. This mission is absolutely worth taking. 🚀✨
