‘Squid Game’ Season 3 Breaks Records and Brings the Global Phenomenon to a Close

The third and final season of Squid Game has made history, dominating charts around the world with a record-breaking debut. It became the first show to reach the No. 1 spot in every country ranked during its premiere week, including Australia. Within just three days, the season reached a staggering 60.1 million views, setting a new benchmark for most views in that time frame. The explosive popularity of both Season 2 and 3 also made Squid Game the only series to appear on Netflix’s Most Popular List during its launch week.

Lee Jung-jae’s return as the conflicted and determined Player 456 has been widely praised, with critics calling his performance one of the greatest in television history. The final chapter of the series has quickly become Netflix’s ninth most-watched non-English language show of all time. Meanwhile, Seasons 1 and 2 also surged in viewership, landing in the global Top 10 for non-English TV last week, with Season 2 at No. 3 and Season 1 at No. 6.

Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game first captivated audiences in 2021 and has since become a cultural touchstone in Australia. Its gripping themes, powerful storytelling and chillingly relevant commentary have helped shape conversations around entertainment and Korean culture alike.

In Season 3, the story picks up with Gi-hun, also known as Player 456, as he sets out to confront the dark forces behind the deadly game once and for all. Fueled by revenge and a desire for justice, Gi-hun finds himself caught in an even more dangerous web of power, control and human desperation. As the stakes reach their highest point yet, the season pushes characters to the edge in a tense and emotionally charged finale.
