Marvel Studios is bringing the iconic superhero team back to the big screen with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, landing in Australian cinemas on 24th of July. Directed by Matt Shakman and produced by Marvel Studios, the film marks the 37th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and introduces a fresh take on the beloved characters, skipping the usual origin story.
Set in a 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic world, First Steps follows the Fantastic Four as they face off against the planet-devouring cosmic threat Galactus, played by Ralph Ineson. The film stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm. Joining them are Julia Garner, Natasha Lyonne, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ralph Ineson in key supporting roles.
The film’s journey to the screen began after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019, taking over the franchise following the failure of the 2015 reboot. Director Jon Watts was initially attached but stepped down in 2022, with Shakman coming on board shortly after. The script has been developed by several writers including Jeff Kaplan, Ian Springer, Josh Friedman, and Eric Pearson, all working to craft a unique and fresh direction for the team.
Filming took place between July and November 2024 at Pinewood Studios in England, with additional scenes shot on location in England and Spain. Marvel has promised a visually rich and character-driven film that sets a new tone for the team.
Australian fans rejoice with Fantastic Friday, a special V-Max screening at Event Cinemas on 1st of August, where ticket holders will receive a collector card set while stocks last.
Prepare for adventure when Marvel’s first family finally makes their MCU debut.
