THE PLOT

Journey to the African savanna, where adventure, friendship and unforgettable music come together in Disney’s animated masterpiece, The Lion King (1994). This beloved family classic follows a young lion cub named Simba, who dreams of one day becoming king of the Pride Lands.

Simba is the son of Mufasa, the wise and respected lion king who teaches his son about responsibility, courage and the delicate balance of nature known as the Circle of Life. But while Simba looks forward to his royal future, his jealous uncle Scar has plans of his own.

Determined to claim the throne, Scar sets a dangerous scheme into motion that changes Simba’s life forever. Overwhelmed by guilt and heartbreak, the young lion leaves his home behind and disappears into the wilderness.

Far from the Pride Lands, Simba meets two unlikely companions: Timon, a wisecracking meerkat, and Pumbaa, a lovable warthog with a big heart. Together, they introduce Simba to their carefree way of life and a little philosophy called Hakuna Matata.

As Simba grows older, however, he begins to realise that running away from the past doesn’t make it disappear. When an old friend returns with news of what has happened to his homeland, Simba must decide whether to continue hiding or face his fears and reclaim his rightful place as king.

Featuring the voices of Matthew Broderick, James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella, The Lion King delivers a powerful story filled with memorable characters, breathtaking hand-drawn animation and some of Disney’s most recognisable songs.

Directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, with music by Elton John, Tim Rice and Hans Zimmer, The Lion King remains one of Disney’s most treasured animated adventures. At its heart, it’s a timeless story about family, friendship, loss, courage and discovering who you are meant to be.
