The Toxic Avenger – August 28

Mutant mayhem is set to explode onto the big screen as The Toxic Avenger charges into Australian cinemas from Thursday, 28 August 2025.

Directed by Macon Blair, this bold reimagining of the 1984 cult sensation brings a modern twist to the tale of Winston Gooze, a mild-mannered janitor who is transformed into a disfigured yet super-powered anti-hero after falling into a vat of toxic waste. With a glowing mop as his unlikely weapon, he sets out to take down corporate villains and clean up the corruption plaguing his town.

Peter Dinklage steps into the role of Winston Gooze with surprising grit and charm, leading a wild ensemble cast that includes Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Julia Davis and Jonny Coyne. The film blends horror, comedy and action with a satirical edge, embracing over-the-top violence.

After a much-talked-about festival debut and a long journey to screens, The Toxic Avenger is finally set for wide cinema release across the country. The film is unapologetically bold in tone, boasting extreme gore, irreverent humour and a proudly unrated presentation that fans of cult cinema are sure to devour.

With a runtime of 102 minutes, this chaotic, blood-soaked adventure doesn’t hold back. It pays homage to the outrageous energy of the original while carving out its own identity for a new generation of moviegoers. Expect practical effects, bizarre characters and a whole lot of mop-wielding mayhem.

Prepare for glowing goo, corporate carnage and the return of the most unlikely hero in cinema history. The Toxic Avenger is back — louder, bloodier and more toxic than ever.

In Cinemas 28 August.
